The long-awaited start of the new NBA season has already provided a shock loss for the LA Lakers on their home court. In their upcoming game against last year’s finalists, Phoenix Suns, Lebron and co. will be looking to regain their composure.
Of course, you can’t judge a team too much based on a single game; however, as it stands, things are not looking too promising for the Lakers. Lebron James and Anthony Davis are carrying the rest of the team and regularly trying to take all the glory for themselves, forgetting they have teammates.
New arrival Russell Westbrook may struggle to find his place in the squad and it doesn’t look like Carmelo Anthony will be bringing much to the table any time soon. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting here that last season the Suns were also heavily reliant on their own veteran.
Phoenix’s nerve center Chris Paul has aided the development of Mikal Bridges, Deandre Ayton and, most of all, Devin Booker. There’s no reason to doubt that Paul has a few more seasons playing at this exceptional level left in him, while Booker is gradually stepping up to take of the mantle of leader. Phoenix’s greatest strategic misstep, however, may have been their failure to sign a contract extension with Ayton. Without him, the team has a deficit of power and may struggle when battling under the boards, meaning that Monty Williams’ prospects for building a winning squad look troubled to say the least. In this game, we expect to see the Lakers back on their feet with Westbrook making an impressive debut as the team’s third star.
